Arriving early so you can wait in advance

Having been told previously that our insurance company Desjardins would no longer insure Mrs. Ottawacker to drive, this despite their accepting of our payments for said purpose (all because she couldn’t get an appointment to get her driving licence renewed on time), we found herself driving down a suspiciously empty Bank Street at 7:30 in the morning so that Mrs. Ottawacker could stand in line for an hour before Service Ontario opened, thus ensuring she would be first in line and not have to wait the six hours that is seemingly standard in any Canadian institution should you have the misfortune to arrive either just on time or five minutes late. I deposed her at the door and considered returning to bed. Instead, I decided to make a stab at the various chores I had to do (de-crudding the wooden kitchen drawers, which had become sticky and discoloured because they are not cleaned regularly enough; running Drano through the sewer lines; putting laundry on the line to take advantage of the sun; feeding the cats, etc.)

Then, Mrs. Ottawacker returned, victorious from her battle with administration. “First in line,” she said. “I got seen immediately.” The things you can achieve if you are willing to arrive 90 minutes ahead of schedule. Realising my life is not going to get any more exciting in the foreseeable future, I waved goodbye to her and Ottawacker Jr. as they departed on an epic bus ride. I promised to have scrambled eggs ready for around the time they returned.

They returned. Eggs were eaten. Ottawacker Jr. went out again. I did some work. Saturdays….. Blip is of an adventurous groundhog.
