Lill-Sandviken (Little Sandbay)
A day off.
After all the gardening yesterday the body was creaking a little this morning. We needed a walk. Somewhere new... How about those walks we heard about near Timrå? A check of the Internet, find a walk, print out the map.
A plan forms and we ring Rose, who also thinks the plan interesting so then we are three.
Drive to Söråker and eat lunch in the wonderful Söråker Folketshus. Rose has never been there before so we have a look around. We have been here before for Left Party conferences, and to watch Warhorse live from a London Stage via their cinema screen, and, like today, dropped in for the delightful buffet lunch they serve. As an example of this slightly quirky place there is a bureau which is now a seed bank where each small drawer has different types of seeds. Local gardeners have saved seed in small paper packets and left them there for anyone who wants some free seeds.
After lunch we drove further out along the headland to Åstön and then a bit further where we parked and did our walk. Out along one side of the cape, out to the tip.
The extra picture is taken from the tip of the cape, looking directly south. I've marked the spot on the Blipfoto map. In the distance is the island of Bramön, and the mainland the other side of the Sundsvall bay. In the foreground are Rose and Jan. Somewhere off picture to the right is the unknown feature Jan is pointing out to Rose.
We continued around the cape and then back along the other side. Lots of fresh air and sea views and big skies. When we right next to the still rather chilly sea a jumper was needed, but once among the trees the breeze lessened and the jumper came off. Most of the walk is on good paths, very suitable for walkers or cyclists, with one rougher section where the cycles take another route.
Our path bypassed Big Sandbay but we stopped at Little Sandbay to eat our snack, and for me to take my blip.
On the way home we discussed ice-cream and ended up going back to Rose's to eat avocado toast and delicious ice-cream we bought in hte supermarket over the road. We finally got home at about 10:30 after a lovely day off from gardening!
