Midnight light
I took a short wander around the garden shortly after midnight, and just before I went to bed. This is what it looked like. Not dark at all, but not quite fully light either. The sun is almost in the north, below the horizon but not far below. The sun is above the horizon for about 20 hours. At Midsummer in 10 days it will be up for 20 hours and 5 minutes!
If the sky is clear, or partially clear, the midnight light is beautiful. If you are still up at one in the morning there is a magic moment when you notice the light is getting brighter as the next day starts to arrive.
We are 430 kms south of the Arctic Circle, as the crow flies, about 600 kms by road, so we have a fair way to drive if we want to see the "real" midnight sun.
After a good night's sleep I eventually got out to walk around near Smitingen beach, collecting more checkpoints. I did two that I found tough. They were right at the top of a steep hill surrounded by small crags. The extra of the "miniature world" was taken as I climbed one of these crags and what is usually "ground level" was on a ledge at eye height!
