A three hour slog against Emma Navarro from the US.

Beatriz won the first set easily, but Navarro matched her game in the second set and took it to a tie break.
Beatriz was winning and had the momentum in the tie break, when play was stopped mid game to allow medics to treat a spectator.
With the momentum lost, Navarro took charge, won the set and went on to win the match. A good opener.
The other two matches were rapid two set victories, an hour each.


Sonay Kartal of the UK dispatched easily by Amanda Anisimova, followed by a quick Madison Keys victory against a feisty Anastasia Zakharova, who was very good to watch.
