a lifetime burning

In search of flight

By this time last year we had seen a number of dragons emerge from the little pond, but until today there had been no signs of them.  I was a bit worried that the newts (and we have a lot of newts now) had perhaps eaten them.

So I was delighted to find this going on this morning.  I'm pretty sure that it's a migrant hawker, and as you can see from the state of its wings and tail, it is very new at this point.  I actually saw it before the wings inflated but by the time I got back with a camera things had moved on apace.

Fingers are crossed for more!
