London Day Four
We’ve been averaging over 10,000 steps every day - no wonder I’m completely stuffed in the evenings! But Premier Inns have very comfortable beds!
Today we were meeting Nicky at her club in town. So we walked through Bloomsbury and got a bus to Green Park (love that Citymapper app) Then through the park, seeing crowds around Bucky Pally! Was something about to happen? Yes! But we had to stand, in the hot sun, for about half an hour. There was a Very Grumpy policeman on a bike, whizzing up and down yelling at people to stay on the side they were on. Eventually, I stood slightly on the road to attract his attention. That worked. I asked if something was going to happen. Yes. In two minutes.
Eventually, a pipe band came marching along, round the big statue, then turned and went down the other road!! With sunstroke now threatening (JR had gone to stand in the shade) a few soldiers on horseback wandered quietly by with not much pomp. A bit disappointing…
We walked through St James’ Park, sticking as best we could to the shade from the huge trees. (I broke my sunglasses…) We chuckled at the dozens of (empty) deck chairs neatly set out in serried ranks in the full sun!
We reached our destination, the RAC Club, for we were meeting up with Nicky there (can’t do a link on my phone…) And we were treated to a lovely lunch, with a glass of fizz, and caught up with Nicky’s news. We’ve met up with her a couple of times before when we’ve been down her way. A very special blipmeet!
A walk, a bus ride, and a short walk home. Exhausted. But another grand day out in this wonderful city!
