Diary of an Edinburgher

London Day Three

Today we had a tour of the Houses of Parliament (HoP). We’ve been before many years ago, which is fortunate, because today we couldn’t get into either chamber. Last time we were the only people there, and I could have a lean on the Dispatch Box.

But we did see some other places, like the new posh reading room, went out on a roof terrace for a marvellous view, and the wee chapel, which was glorious. We were not taken for lunch like last time either…

We used the brilliant Citymapper app, and took a bus right to Whitehall, and walked along past Downing Street to the HoP. We passed the famous Red Lion, but weren’t allowed in (10.05am).

From there we took another bus to Sloane Square, for we were heading to the Saatchi Gallery to see a marvellous exhibition based on flowers. The gallery, and that whole area is marvellous. JR got very excited because there were lots of shops that we don’t have in Edinburgh.

We sat and had a delicious sandwich from the Chelsea Grocer, before finding the next bus and heading back home. This time the app suggested getting the tube after the bus, but it was rush hour and we really didn’t fancy it. Also, you often find there’s a long way to walk, and in the older stations, steps and no escalators. I was absolutely stuffed, so JR suggested we get an Uber home. Best idea she’s had for a while!!

An exciting day tomorrow! We’re having a very special blip meet…
