A day in the life

Helping out

My friend Lamine Cissokho from Senegal, of the Mandinga tribe, is a master of the string instrument "Kora", taught to him by his father, who in turn was taught by his father and so on. He, and other members of his family follows a line of "Griots", storytellers, who carry the tradition of  singing the history of their people. Lamine is a curious musician though and likes to cooperate with musicians of any genre. Today he played together with a jazz pianist, Oliver Hutman from Paris. Lamine called me on Tuesday to ask if I could lend him a couple of speakers because his own was broken. I had planned to hear the concert anyway and now I got to do it for free. Since they had rented the café in the theatre where I use to work, I could be extra helpful with equipment and help with keys and knowledge.

Kalmar was full of hysterical teenagers since all the schools have stopped now and the ones that just completed their last year of gymnasium celebrates extra, with topping and all the trimmings. They were very lucky with the weather, it being a wonderful summers day, putting a golden edge on the celebrations.
On Monday most of them starts working, in their new role as grown-ups.
