Beautiful and bright -
such was my jaunt to the lake
on this fine morning

I left the house at 5:30 but didn't need to go far for my wildlife shots. The chukars were already scurrying about the neighbourhood when I backed the car out. I stopped and tried tracking them with my camera. Finally, they flew up onto my neighbour's roof top where one paused long enough for my shot.

I drove down the hill to discover four bucks cruising along the hillside beneath my house. They were very intent on greens and ignored me completely.

When I got through the lights I made my turn for Paul Lake. I always enjoy that drive. I think back to winter days when I was heading to the ski hill at Harper Mountain. Summer drives are more enjoyable.

I found some horses along Schedam Flats. They were taking things easy grazing through the sagebrush not far from the road.

I parked at the west side of the lake near the community of Paul Lake. Everything sparkled this morning.

I found some wild roses tangled in brush beside the lake. Then I looked up to see a pair of red-necked grebes floating silently. My photos of them look psychedelic with the colours and reflections in the water around them. I was delighted to see a little one being carried on one's back.

I waited to catch an osprey on the nest near the lake. It has an interesting perch on a dead tree that leans to one side.

I turned for home and breakfast, but my prize today was a black bear ambling along the hillside on Schedam Flats.

I'm in for the day. I am wishing my American neighbours a safe and successful "NO KINGS DAY" There will be demonstrations in support of American democracy on our side of the border, too.
