Now, as I see it......

The Railbus

After our afternoon and evening out in London we didn't get to bed until after midnight last night (very late for us!) and as usual I was wide awake well before 6am.  W had to be up at 7am to get to her yoga class so we've both been a bit tired for the rest of the day culminating in us both nodding off for quite a while after lunch!  I then watched the Rugby Premiership final on TV but at half time nipped over to the station as I knew from the timetable that the railbus was due in.

This is actually owned by the railway but has been on a long term loan to another line and as far as I'm aware, will be going back again after its visit.  A variety of these railbuses were introduced in the 1950's to try and maintain an economical service on little used lines but while cheap to run, they proved unreliable and once most of the small lines were closed in the 1960's they were all withdrawn from service.

It's the 'Rails and Ales' weekend on the railway this weekend with a fairly intense and mixed steam and diesel service, with a beer festival at one of the stations.  I might have a bit more detailed look tomorrow!
