Painted with passion - Scottish landscape
Coming from Wales I thought I knew all about isolated homes so I was unfazed when the artist on my list today to visit for Open Studios described it as a remote location.
But it severely challenged our Sat Nav who got itself in a twist telling us to turn left then right …etc, and at one stage leading us down a grass track. At this point I ring the artist, Andrew Walters.
What a relief to hear a human voice. Yes, we had another mile to go up a steep road to his home isolated in the Gargunnock Hills.
Andrew, a lawyer and Town Planner by profession, is a self-taught artist whose work is an emotional response to the Scottish landscape.
During Covid he was able to devote more time to his passion for painting because he could not travel for work.
If you get a chance to visit during the next Open Studios then it is well worth the trek to this stunning location high in the Scottish hills for Andrew’s work is an inspiration to all those who decide they would like to paint but never dare pick up a paintbrush.
