What a difference a few hours can make

This morning the boys set off for the track, and we hopped on the tram for a quick supermarket run. By the time we were heading home, the carriage was unbearably hot and heaving with people. Poor Jo, almost four months pregnant, fainted standing up. Thankfully a couple of men behind her thought she's just lost her balance and supported her, so she went into the floor with ease and  didn’t take a nasty fall. Everyone was very kind—someone fetched her water, when the tram stopped the carriage cleared out around her, and some guys helped her to her feet. She was shaken but rallied quite quickly.

Deciding crowds and heat were best avoided, we headed back to the campsite and tuned into the radio to catch the last stretch of the race. Once the boys returned, we watched the final hour on the laptop and later rustled up dinner. Just as Jo was stepping back into the van, she hit her head on the doorway and tumbled backwards, landing heavily on her back. Tears and panic and worry for the baby but all seems ok. She has a midwife appointment on Thursday and will pop in on Tuesday for a quick check, but I’ve told her if she’s uneasy she must head straight to A&E when they get off the ferry. By bedtime she’d calmed somewhat, though she’s berating herself -  accidents happen, and I just hope she can be a little kinder to herself in the days ahead.
