Ponta Delgada
Yesterday was a travelling day and I didn't take any photos. Having got up at 3 am, we were at the airport at 4 am ... plenty of time! Still, we stupidly managed to miss our plane, by waiting at the wrong gate. Hard to believe. Julian found an alternative route, via Geneva and Lisbon. We got to Ponta Delgada, in the Azores, at about midnight (local time - so about 22 hours after we got up). Long day!
The reason we are here is that Julian is speaking at a conference. Most members (4) of his team are coming, Including a two partners, so he suggested I came too.
Today, we explored Ponta Delgada. We are staying at a lovely hostel (extra), with a beautiful garden. We had a relaxing breakfast there, then went into town. We spotted a road train offering "historical tours" of the city, it was cheap and we thought it might be a good way to get an overview of the place - total waste of time..
We then found out that Air France had cancelled our return flights since we didn't take the onwards ones. There was no information on their website and we decided to walk to the airport, in the hope of finding an Air France desk or someone to speak to. We didn't, so called them... It took about 15 minutes for someone to answer the phone and another 15 minutes on the phone, when we had to send proof that we got to Porta Delgada.by an alternative airline, but we should be okay..
Back in town, we had a lovely meal before exploring the city on foot. It is charming but there isn't much to it
