Two Lakes
This morning, I took an early bus to Maloja and walked to two lakes. The smaller Lägh da Bitabergh (in the extra collage), and the bigger Lägh da Cavloc (main blip).
I had hoped to avoid the heat, because the path is mostly in shady forest. But it’s no easy path, with lots of steep climbs over uneven ground, and I didn’t quite feel fit enough for some of it. But I made it.
Many people had already gone to the Lägh da Cavloc on the main road (which I went back on), so I didn’t get a place at the little restaurant there. Instead, I found a shaded bench and enjoyed my own little picnic; watching two hardy Swiss women go for a (very brief) swim in the lake, which is really cold.
On my way back to Maloja, I spotted a nutcracker in a larch tree (see extra). These birds are related to jays, and need conifer forests to survive. Here, they mainly feed on Swiss Pine nuts in winter.
