A Guinness World Record
Meet Stumpy, the ring tailed lemur from the Five Sisters Zoo in West Calder, West Lothian. Ok, it’s really a soft toy in our back garden.
However, I thought it was a suitable prop to celebrate the fact that Stumpy, who celebrated his 39th birthday last Sunday (15/06/25) is a Guinness World Record holder now, for being the oldest ever living lemur in captivity in the world. Here’s a bit of info about Stumpy.
I’m not always sure I agree the idea of zoos, or perhaps what zoos used to be. I think nowadays, that thankfully, zoos have evolved, as noted by the Five Sisters Zoo’s mission:
Five Sisters Zoo is committed to changing the behaviour and attitude of its audience towards the natural world in order to fight against the global biodiversity crisis.
What I also think is marvellous about this family run zoo is that it rescues animals in need, whether it’s dancing bears from Romania or lions from war torn Ukraine. It’s an amazing place and I would urge people to visit it, if they’re ever up in this area of the country.
I hope you’re having a lovely day in this beautiful weather.
