The Workers Stately Home

Martin and I are having a weekend at Wortley Hall, near Sheffield. It’s a lovely stately home, which is owned by the trade union movement.

Coming from a mining family, It has many memories for Martin who spent many happy childhood holidays there in the 1970’s. It’s lovely to be guided round the house and gardens by Martin reminiscing about his times there.

It was a nice journey down too, dropping in on Martin’s dad in County Durham.

My extra is very symbolic of old Labour (I never knew this paper still existed), which seems very distant nowadays from Sir Keir Starmer and the current Labour government.

Another day of exploring South Yorkshire tomorrow.
