THURSDAY

It was a very hot day, with temperatures hovering around 30ºC.

I started the morning in the garden, watering the plants, then decided to wash and polish the car which was  hot work. I needed a second shower afterwards.

My bowls friend, John, called in mid-afternoon. We sat out in the shade with some cold (zero-alcohol) beer, homemade scones, homemade jam, and ice cream.

In the Clwyd Evening Bowling League, we are now halfway through the 2025 season. Today, we played a return match away at Ruthin Bowling Club.

The sun was beating down all evening, and the heat and humidity were oppressive. As I was playing at number nine, I volunteered to measure and I don't think my services have ever been called on so much!

I was on and off the green constantly, and by the time it was my turn to play, I’d already clocked 4,300 steps just from measuring.

All in all, for an away fixture, we had a good result: 7 winners out of 10, plus two points for the aggregate. Maybe the heron feature at the side of the green spooked me as my own bowling wasn’t up to my usual standard, but I still won my game 21–10.

Home just in time for the 9:30 pm Ocado delivery.

On another note, today there was a fire in the Conwy Tunnel (which we passed through yesterday) which caused traffic chaos throughout then area. One of our bowlers was caught up in the traffic and missed the match. Fortunately we had a reserve.
