Llanfairfechan, Aber Falls and Spinnies Aberogwen

WEDNESDAY

Another day of fine, sunny weather.

Late morning, we headed off to the charming Victorian seaside town of Llanfairfechan, between the Carneddau mountains and the Menai Strait on the North Wales coast. We had lunch outside in the sunshine at the Pavilion Café.

After a short drive, we parked the car and took the 2.5 km uphill path to the spectacular Aber Falls. With the heat and sunshine, we took things at a slower pace than usual. It was probably the most challenging walk Prue has tackled since her hip replacement twelve weeks ago.

Next, we visited the Spinnies Aberogwen Nature Reserve. The hide there looks one way over a lake and reed bed, and the other way across the beach towards Beaumaris on the opposite side of the Menai Strait.

The trees around the lake were full of nesting egrets, and we were lucky enough to spot a kingfisher perched on a branch — and also diving into the water.

The egret in the extra (and insert photo) clearly had total disregard for the sign.

Back home early evening.
