Midsummer Gala

Today was our villages Children's Gala actually on midsummers day. It was very warm and muggy with a spot or two of rain to start but nothing like the cold washout we had last year. It was so bad it was abandoned at 3.00pm, something  never heard of before.

I was helping on the church stall selling books and providing crafts for to be children. Opposite was a stall that had nit been at previous events and I didn't investigate it until later in the afternoon. It was called ‘Walk on the Wild Side’. They had these marvellous birds of prey.
In the main picture is Chief, a ferrunginous X red- tailed hawk. Sitting below is Nimbus an African spotted eagle owl.
To the right above is Bramble, a four year old red-footed falcon, very small and below is Picasso a two year old northern hawk owl.

If you were inclined you could also see and touch reptiles, a bearded dragon and some snakes as well as millipedes! There were some rabbits too. They specialise in educational visits and events.

Thought this was something a bit different fur my blip but there were all the usual events too. A parade with a band and walking tableaus ( I didn’t go out to watch this time just watched them enter through the park gates). There was the usual tea tent and bouncy castles, the water splash was popular because of the heat, games and children’s races, tombolas and the WI’s cake and plant stall. You can see some of these more traditional elements in the extra.

So glad it went well for them this year. Think we sold more books than ever - 50p each or buy two and get one free! I enjoyed the company and an ice cream what more could you want on Midsummer’s Day! ( and no Midsomer murders)
