Scone!
I took my car back to Kwikfit, this afternoon, knowing that they'd need it for an hour or so. As I was feeling peckish, I popped into Charlie's Café.
I was unsure what I fancied until I saw a scone on sat on a plate, and ordered that, only to discover when it arrived at the table that it came with jam and cream. Hooray!
Also, two layers of jam!
The café itself is not prepossessing although the building it's in has some history:
"Built in 1690, this house was owned during the Stuart rebellion of 1745 by Justice Thomas Shepherd. It was slept in by 'Bonnie Prince Charlie' during his advance on London and again during his retreat when his pursuer, the Duke of Cumberland, slept in the same bed on the following night. In an exchange of fire with the retreating army a highlander and a local farmer were shot."
When I went back to pick up the car, the chap told me he'd knocked 20% off the cost of the tyres on the grounds that they'd been on sale the previous week, so that was an unexpected bonus.
And in the evening, Dan and I went down into town for a curry. All in all, a very good day!
