The Pelican…
Another coffee shop. They seem to be popping up all over town which I think is great because it’s the shape of things to come if we are to keep life in our High Streets thriving. I use the word High Street to mean the heart of a town. How long has shopping and visiting shops to browse been ‘a thing’? 200, maybe 250 years? But times have changed and the Hugh Street has to change if it’s to thrive. Out of town shopping has almost completely taken over food shopping and to a great extent a lot of non-food items where people need to load their goods into their cars. Even in Guernsey a fair bit of clothes shops are now out of town.
I think we must embrace the changes and that seems to mean more coffee shops, jewellers, touristy shops and similar.
The markets no longer sell meat, fish or fruit and vegetables because people voted with their feet and stopped shopping in the market. Now it’s a mix of a clothes shop, a restaurant, the Visitors Centre, an art gallery, oh and a Coop shop and pharmacy.
But all that is just my opinion and is also my excuse for not finding a more exciting blip!
What do you think!
