A day at the zoo.

Today our Camera Club has a day at the zoo - the zoo in question being just in the road from where we live. We used to frequent the Welsh Mountain Zoo regularly when the boys were small, though they were more interested in the adventure playground than the animals! Since they outgrew this, we’ve only been once, when G bought me a Raptor Experience as one of my 60th birthday presents, but we often hear the sounds of chimps and sea lions from the garden.

It’s very much a casual, social event; reduced cost entry for members and family, and a chance to wander round the rather lovely setting - wooded hills and fabulous views - photographing the animals. Daniel, Solveig and Lili have come over for the weekend, but wait until the morning’s showers have passed until they come up to the zoo. So G and I dodge the rain, sheltering in the butterfly house or drinking coffee, until the sun comes out again.

Of course, the photo opportunities are endless, so there are a number of extras today. My main has to be the Sumatran Tiger - smaller than the Bengal, but just as magnificent. But the Snow Leopards come a very close second - such beautiful creatures, and there are also lemurs, a red panda and some butterflies - a tiger longwing,  a female banded orange, and a Sara longwing (if my identification is correct!)

Apologies for my absence over the last few days - things have been quite busy and I’m feeling rather jaded. Hopefully I’ll catch up over the next few days.
