Collateral damage

There must have been some very strong winds in Ufton Woods recently. This large tree has toppled and in the process taken down the smaller tree in its path. What I found surprising is how shallow the roots are; I'd read somewhere that trees have as much root underground as branches above ground, but these roots are tiny.
