Midsummer Extravaganza
We were promised a fine sunny day with a high of 24ºC – almost unheard of for Edinburgh. The weather gods had different ideas – in came the north east breeze and the haar. Still, six boats made it out onto the water, and I had Rog on the helm. This was a fun race y’see where the only rule was that the skip wasn’t allowed near the tiller. I was sorely tempted at times, let’s just say. At one point the haar almost lifted and we could see the flats at Newhaven – then it came in again, and we were all at sea, so to speak, trying to navigate our way round the buoys which were invisible in the murk. But again, and luckily, I had boats to follow if you get my drift. Rog, pay attention! However, having finished comfortably ahead of Jester I found that thanks to my handicap his adjusted lap time was quicker than mine! And he has fin keel Contessa 28!! The game’s a bogey.
There was a brief BBQ in the yard where we were joined by the SK; the haar thickened again and it started raining. Meanwhile, the rest of the country basked in the sun. I shall remember this.
