Walk on the Wild Side

I have often been to the Bernina Pass and its lake, but never walked on the Western side of it (the far side on the photo in the main blip). So I did that today, starting at the beautifully situated train station Alp Grüm (first extra) where I enjoyed the views of the (rapidly shrinking) Palü Glacier, and southwards into the much lower Puschlav or Poschiavo valley (second extra).

From here, the path went steeply upward towards the Bernina Pass, through larch forest and meadows full of flowers. This part of the walk was quite busy with hikers and mountain bikers, but they all went along the main road on the Eastern side of the lake Lago Bianco, and I was pretty much alone on the Western shore with its narrow path. Perfect for me. I took more photos of my beloved Alpine flowers, and watched the trains come and go at the station Ospizio Bernina on the other side (last extra).

Later, I would catch a train back from the same station. I had thought about walking further to the next station, but I will meet an old friend tonight and don’t want to fall asleep during dinner.
