England and Scotland on the Border Ridge
Last November we made a date with Katherina to meet for a picnic at the summit of Windy Gyle at 1pm on midsummer's day. Today she walked with Andrew and Ruby from Alwinton south of the border to the meeting point. Meanwhile we made the approach from Cocklawfoot to the north. Mr hazelh and I reached the rendezvous about 20 minutes before the others. As per plan, we ate our sandwiches together, exchanged news for about 90 minutes, then set off on our separate ways home again.
Our walk on the Scottish side was lovely with well marked paths and wonderful views. Due to the heat, it was a little hard-going uphill along Clennell Street, so we welcomed the breeze and some cloud cover at the top. I'd love to do the walk again - either in reverse, or from the English side (possibly following in the footsteps of my Border reiver ancestors).
My blip shows the path across the ridge that marks part of the Pennine way. This is on the English side of the Border. Scotland is to the right of the fence. Our picnic spot in on the hill in the distance.
Exercise today: hill walking (19,103 steps).
