Water of Life
Having had a busy weekend with the family, going to Chester with G is probably not my most sensible move, but I do feel guilty that I don’t always support him when he’s playing in an orchestral concert. Tonight it’s another concert at St John’s - one of these occasions when a group of musicians get together for one afternoon rehearsal, then perform a full classical concert in the evening. Of course, they’re all experienced players and the soloist is professional, so it’s not surprising that it sounds impressive.
I wander round a rather damp Chester while they’re rehearsing, feeling the city isn’t what it once was in terms of retail therapy. The cathedral is always worth a visit, and it’s in the cloister garden that I photograph the rather lovely sculpture - Water of Life. I treat myself to a coffee and a berry brioche in Gail’s - our new favourite coffee place before returning to the car to read. I’m just so tired …..
Rehearsal over, we go for a meal in Cote before returning for the concert which is excellent - Saint-Saëns, Beethoven and Schubert - I’m particularly pleased the latter is his Unfinished as it means an earlier departure and an earlier bed!
Full disclosure - taken yesterday as I’m just too tired to leave the house today.
