Cloud free Mont Blanc
A long hot/ cold high/low day. We went up the Aiguille du Midi cable car for perhaps the fourth time at 11am. By then it was scorching in Chamonix and 5 degrees C at the top. We had worn long trousers and a fleece having been so cold up there in the past, but need not have because even at 3842 metres with the sun out it felt warm. There was no cloud and no wind so plenty of climbers were out doing their thing.

The first extra is perhaps the most poignant. Melting glacier water.
After going most of the way up Mont Blanc the easy way in the cable car, we had lunch then went up the Montenvers rack and pinion railway, to look at the Mer de Glace glacier. Or what is left of it. I know it would be melting in the summer anyway but is definitely shrinking now.
