Sete Cidades
Back-blip
This afternoon's tour was to Sete Cidades, at the west end of the island. It is the largest lake-filled caldera in São Miguel island. It consists of two, ecologically different lakes connected by a narrow strait, crossed by a bridge. The shallow lake is green, and the deeper one is blue. According to Azorian legend it was formed from the tears of a shepherd with green eyes and princess with blue eyes who shared a forbidden love. We first went to the viewpoint from where we could just about see the two different colour despite the weather being grey. The hydrangea at the viewpoint grow wild all over the island.
Then the coach dropped us off in the village and we had 100 minutes to spend in the area. I went kayaking on the lake with Ivet, Yanyu and Shunee while Julian went on a walk.
Back in Ponta Delgada, the seven of us - that's Julian, his 4 colleague, me and the girlfriend of one of his colleagues - went for an ice-cream. Then there was a bit of time to relax and pack before going for a meal out together.
This was our last day in the Azores - it went very quickly but I am really grateful to have had this opportunity.
