Guiding at Hill of Tarvit Mansionhouse on a Wednesday is a very rare event, as the property is normally closed on a Wednesday
However, the entrance doors were opened to welcome a tour of members of the National Galleries of Scotland. Pat and I are members, however, we were guiding.
The main attraction for the tour was the fabulous painting collection as well the Mansionhouse.
The tour had visited Kellie Castle in the morning. The numbers were split into groups and Pat and I were leading one group.
The visitors certainly had many questions to ask and we managed to answer all of them.
It was certainly a far busier afternoon than normal. Of course we do have fairly comprehensive notes on virtually every painting in the property, but it is unusual to be asked about every one.
Today’s entry features the original telephone in the Mansionhouse, which is located near the Butler’s Pantry. The original number was Letham 27. The number remains the same although it has increased by quite a number of digits.
