Black Is Black

The black project guitar - “Blackcaster” as I’ve decided to call it - is finished. This is the guitar that was never meant to be. I bought a cheap S type guitar with a view to modifying it, without going overboard on cost.
But some late night browsing on eBay led to the purchase of a black neck with fancy inlays. Okay, I thought, I’ll spray the body black and build an all black guitar. But I didn’t actually like the neck when it arrived - felt a bit cheap and needed a lot of lemon oil on the fretboard just to get it looking halfway decent. Oh well, chalk it down to experience and see if I can offload it on eBay.
However, more late night browsing on eBay (I really must stop doing that) threw up a “fully loaded” S type body in black at what seemed to be a very reasonable price. So I bought it. And it turned out to be pretty decent - very generic pickups and wiring, but all looking quite new.
Decided I might as well go “all in” so ordered a few more bits of hardware (in black) so that I could complete it. Trickiest bit was attaching the neck, as it had no mounting holes in it and I needed to make sure it was properly lined up and seated correctly, before drilling pilot holes and inserting the screws.
With everything fastened together, I stuck on a set of strings I’d had hanging around (unopened) for years, did a rudimentary setup and plugged it in. And….not bad, as it happened. No obvious buzzes or rattles and it felt very Strat like, which was the point of the exercise, I suppose.
I’m going to take it to R&T Music tomorrow to be properly set up, and then I’ll need to decide what to do with it. I’m a hundred and fifty quid in now and should really recoup as much of that as possible, so that I can get on with finishing the original project.
Or perhaps start something else……???
