Gently down the stream

The 'Ahh' Factor

I haven't seen deer in the reserve for months.  I knew one was back a couple of weeks ago from my friend the warden, and I can be pretty sure it's the mum here.  The baby was undoubtedly still in it's reed nest at that stage and even here you can tell how very young it is.  Certainly less than six weeks old (which is when the spots will disappear from its coat) and I would say no more than four.  What a little honey!

Big 'Ahhhhhhhhhhh' now!

And on other subjects:  first off we have some gipsies camping on the Green.  That's a new one.  They are very tidy and have enormous and very flash caravans.  Not knowing who they were or why they were there I went down and talked to one of the young guys who told me a bit about them.  I suppose in a way it's surprising we don't have more gipsies trickling around Winchester.  Romsey and the New Forest are tradional areas for them and neither are far from here.

It has been, and still is, a very hot day.  The garden will have to be watered tonight.  I've done some food shopping and much tidying and now very peacefully have the house to myself.  A rare occurance these days!

Have a happy evening, dear peeps  xx
