Top of the Charts

I (Chris) am not a good camper and had significantly less than a full night's sleep here at the V Festival in Chelmsford. Annie was much more successfully rested. However, a monster breakfast baguette soon had me back to life for day 2!

We headed into the main site to catch the reunited Five (5ive for those real fans although there are actually now only 4 of them!!!) for a set of rousing crowd pleasers. Side-stepping the inevitable burgers and sausages for a plate of Chinese food for lunch, we listened to a set from much hyped new boy in town, John Newman before heading back to the main stage for local cheeky chappie Olly Murs.

We returned to the slighter smaller 4 Music stage for a truly massive crowd to see Rudimental. You could barely move for the crowds and it made for a lovely late afternoon with the sun beating down. Maximo Park followed and whilst much of the crowd headed for the main stage and the final two acts Stereophonics and Kings of Leon, we were on to the Arena Stage and a brilliant set from a big favourite of mine, Ellie Goulding. I threw caution to the wind, edged myself towards front of stage with camera in hand and amidst the packed crowd, waving arms and occasional liquid filled "missile", grabbed a few shots (including the blip). Coming on an evening when she achieved her first UK number 1 single (Burn), it was a fantastic set with Ellie and the crowd both really enjoying the moment.

Finally we joined another massive crowd for a DJ set from hit production line man of the moment, Calvin Harris. Big sounds and an even bigger light show!!! Do we really have to go back to work tomorrow?
