Scratching an itch
This morning I took Eden with me to pick up some plants and left the guys at the property laying some sod and getting some weeding done. Eden enjoyed the trip. We made a quick stop at a farm market/bakery and each of us bought some cookies. At the nursery we had some empty plant pots to unload off the back of the truck, then filled it with the ones I had ordered, plus a few more. On the way back to the highway I took a different route, I wanted to see if these cows were in the pasture close to the road. I was in luck. There were 4 of them, a cow, a bull, a calf and another one that is likely about a year old. After the bull scratched himself for a few minutes, he walked over and stood under one of the trees. He hooked his horn on a low branch and brought it down low enough so he could eat some of the leaves.
The sod that I ordered for today was really dry this morning. They will not guarantee a delivery time so I had to ask for a delivery the previous afternoon. I have ordered sod in the past, had a morning delivery the day before we laid it, and it was never this dry. I suspect it was on the truck for most of the day yesterday. I know he drove from Elmsdale to Prospect to Dartmouth with the sod on the truck, so it was there for at least 3 hours. It was cooler yesterday, so if it had been cut that morning, it should not have dried out that much. I should have called them this morning to complain but didn't have time. Even though I requested an email receipt, they never sent me one. They will try to say they only guarantee their sod for 12 hours. I plan to fight them on this.
Clouds and afternoon showers in the forecast for tomorrow. We need some rain. I hope to go to the valley tomorrow, will have to see what the weather is like in the morning.
