Between fen and mountains

The organist

Jeff, our tower captain and organist, was back practising this morning after three weeks away. I was doing some printing at a time so we had a bit of a catch up. There is no ringing practice this afternoon but we should have enough to ring tomorrow morning. I made bread first thing and I think I have found a solution to making bread in this hot weather. When I fed the mother culture last night it rose very quickly so I let it continuous its rise in the fridge overnight which meant it did not collapse. I kneaded ed the bread for only half the time and shortened the two provings during the day by half. The bread has turned out very well. I got the market shopping done early as it was hot even when I woke up. I bought two coils of sausages, one Catalan and the other spiced with piment d’Espelette. I also bought a lot of apricots to put in the freezer. We always try to make the most of this season of soft fruit. The main valley is an important area of production. It was then too hot to do anything so I watched a retrospective on Andy Murray, “The will to win“ to gear myself up for Wimbledon.
