Here's another Palace

The Palace of Westminster viewed from a riverside snack bar across the road from Lambeth Palace. This is a back blip from yesterday. We both had toasted cheese and ham filled croissants and watched, from the cabin windows, the Thames flowing downstream below. The Palace of Westminster, aka the Houses of Parliament, was destroyed by fire - save for the 12th century Westminster Hall - in 1834. The rebuilding project started in 1840 and lasted for 30 years. The Grade 1 listec building is now in dire need of major repair and renovation, which will cost many millions. That cost is going up all the time Parliament delays a decision on the timing and budgeting of the work. The Victoria Tower,  at the left of the photo, is the largest of the Palace's towers. Big Ben is housed in the Elizabeth Tower overlooking Westminster Bridge.
