Today’s walk
Brian and I joined the Northumberland National Park walk from Rothbury today. Brian drove to me and I drove us both to Rothbury.
The first half of the 8 mile walk was up, up, up. It was all on the stone slabs that have been laid to protect the peat, so it was hard on the feet.
Higher up we walked from rock to rock.
I found it hard going, but the leader kept a good pace and had regular stops for people to drink and to catch up (me)!
The views were spectacular and we could even see the sea to the east.
We had lunch on Simonside and then started the long descent. This was quite tricky and my knees protested! I made it without falling.
I was disappointed that the ascent was only 1,000 feet!!
It was very hot and hard to keep hydrated. I corrected this with pint of beer from the fridge. I’ve had my salad and now need to drag myself towards the shower.
I enjoyed the day and was very pleased that I was fit enough to complete the walk.
