Soaring

Monday 30th June 2025

We were up and out at the cliffs at 6.20am! We were rewarded by the barn owl making four appearances in the next hour. We returned home for breakfast and to process our photos.

We were back out at 9.30am to go to the National Bird of Prey Centre, looking forward to three flying displays. The first display started, sort of. Charlie welcomed us and introduced the first Eagle, which had flown up in to the trees. The trouble was, she didn't want to come down. They all got a bit flustered and had to cancel the first display as the other birds couldn't come out while she was on the run. She didn't return for 2hrs and it was touch and go as to whether the second flying display could happen.

They did do an indoor display in place of the first one but that was no good for our photography. Thankfully the second display went well, which is where I got this photo. However, the falcon at the end also decided to hide in the trees instead of doing a few paces on catching the food. When it came down it had to be rewarded straight away.

We originally intended going out between flights two and three to explore but it was so hot we just stayed in the shade and had a drink. We enjoyed the final display and then returned home.
