Surprise!
After spending an extremely frustrating day trying to merge some LR catalogs, I decided to walk down to the lower part of our property to check the two nest boxes there. After the first 2 house wren boxes fledged, the male wren immediately started filling both boxes with sticks so I haven’t been paying attention lot of attention. I stuck my phone in the first box to find a nearly complete but empty nest - no surprise. The second box, however, had a neat little grass nest on top of the sticks and 2 tiny blue eggs! Apparently the bluebirds who nested in that box for their first brood decided they wanted it for their second. The male almost never sings but he’s guarded that nest vigorously against swallows, sparrows and now wrens. Nice surprise.
This morning I watched the baby wrens in the box in front of the house being fed by the parents. It’s late to open the box now so I will just watch from a distance. And I finally got a decent look at the swallow nest which still has 3 unhatched eggs along with 2 well-feathered nestlings. They should fledge soon.
I am watching the “Exporting Catalog” box on the Mac, hoping that my latest attempt to move files off to my external drive will finally be successful. Send good juju, please.
Xoxo
