Postcard from Filey.
Will some parts of the country may still have a heatwave but here in the Yorkshire East Coast we have much cooler temperatures and it has rained on and off all day. No sun.
However we have managed to stay dry and have really enjoyed our day.
Starting with breakfast at The Pot Still Coffee Shop at the Spirit of Yorkshire distillery, Hunmanby.
A full Yorkshire breakfast set us up for the day. Delicious!
After a walk round the village for old times sake, as it’s where I went to school, we headed off to Filey.
Parked up the Ravine, and it had stopped raining.
A lovely walk along the sandy beach, with views across Filey Bay round to Flamborough Head in the South and Filey Brigg in the North( see collage)
Spotted a little red tractor waiting to haul the boats back up to the Coble Landing.
There was an information board about the planes which used the beach as a runway back in the early 20th Century. Particularly the Blackburn Mercury monoplane. ( see collage)
At the far end we climbed the steps up to Glen Gardens where we came across the sculpture of a Plesiorsaur, a prehistoric marine reptile. The sculpture was inspired by the local folklore about a dragon that once lived in Filey Brigg.
Suddenly we had a very heavy shower, and so stopped off at the cafe for tea and scones.
What friendly staff. Not usually asked how we like our tea, weak, medium or strong. I said how much I had enjoyed the scones and she said it was her mother’s recipe.
The rain had stopped and so we walked through the Crescent Gardens back to the car.
That is where I saw the statue of the fishermen and the bandstand. ( see collage)
Just managed to get back to the car before the parking ticket ran out.
Now back enjoying a glass of wine and watching the tennis, and the sun has come out!
Extra photo taken of one of a few signs we saw around the town gardens.
I thought what a lovely idea and one we should all take note of.
