Wound up in Wexford

Elgol beach

After two long driving days we had a lazy day today.

When we arrived last night, our AirBnb host was very keen we should take a walk, as the weather was predicted to deteriorate overnight.  I'm afraid we just didn't have the energy, and fortunately the weather actually held up all day today.

We had a slow start, but did eventually walk down to the harbour and beach - a rather steep walk down.

I ventured along the very bouldery beach to the honeycomb rock, and onto the stone outcrop, from where there was a great view of the Cuilin Hills.

Also see first extra, a fun photo of a family on four levels.  Second extra shows the structure of the rocky outcrop.

On my way back along the bouldery beach, I slightly twisted my ankle - barely noticed it, thought nothing much of it.  After I rejoined W, we went to the Elgol cafe for coffee and cake, and by the time we set off from there my ankle had stiffened - it was a very slow climb back up to our accommodation.  There I sat with it elevated, an ice application, and took painkillers.

In the evening, my daughters came over.  They'd had a much more active day, including getting drenched whilst climbing The Old Man of Storr.  By the time we walked up to Elgol Bistro for dinner the ankle had improved immeasurably,  thank goodness - 3rd extra photo taken by the manager.
