Back to the rain
My sister took me to Hampton station this morning where I caught the 9.51 to Vauxhall, then the Underground to Euston.
Another warm day and the crowds were out in Euston Square, my Blip today. I didn’t have long to wait for my train and the person who booked the seat next to mine didn’t turn up, so I had the place to myself all the way to Glasgow as nobody took the seat later on - one of the benefits of choosing an aisle seat maybe!
A change in the weather just before reaching Crewe and it began to cloud over. By the time we reached Carlisle a few drops of rain had begun to fall and as we crossed the border into Scotland the mist descended and we were engulfed in gloom, which lasted all the way to Glasgow Central.
I walked to Queen Street station in time for the Oban train. What is normally a beautifully scenic journey was spoilt by intermittent drizzle and low cloud - very difficult to see much at all! MrsM had checked the train timetable and was assured that my train was on time, so drove down to meet me. Ha! We were almost twenty minutes late! The last part of the journey was marked by the constant slapping of branches on the train windows - apparently it had been windy today so that must have been the reason - but it slowed the train to a crawl.
I jumped in the car for the short journey home and the heavens opened. After a wonderful week it was a disappointing welcome home!
