and so it continues..
My day started with a visit to church to meet the wasp nest man again! Yesterday we discovered that the roof was leaking in the hall so called out a roofer to have a look. It wasn't too major which was good news but while checking it out he pointed out we had a wasps nest over the entrance ramp. We warned the Indian congregation who were using the church to park away from the area and arranged for the exterminator to come this morning. Joy of joys while there he spotted a second nest a little further along the porch! "It's only £20 for the second one!" he said cheerfully!
Can't really complain though, roof and wasps were successfully dealt with before 11am and no-one got stung.
Back home I decided to make some strawberry jam with the bargain berries I picked up in Sainsbury's. I'd barely finished when Katy and the girls came to visit. They're off on holiday next week and wanted to come and see us before the packing frenzy took over their lives.
Once they had gone I decided to go into the garden and pick some of the bumper crop of blackcurrants there. I picked less than half of one bush in about 25 minutes and got over a kg of berries. Looks like my Heath Robinson cd bird scarer worked and kept the wood pigeons away. Normally I get about 500g in total, 1og already and there's another bush and a half to go. Talk about taking the Mickey - if you'll pardon the expression, or should that be talk about the Mickey's taking!
I boiled up the berries and set them dripping overnight, in my very delicate looking, but extremely effective, jelly bag support from Lakeland. Gone are the days of balancing broom handles across the breakfast bar stools and dangling a jelly bag precariously from them.
With so many berries still waiting to be picked, there'll be no need to give them a second boiling. The house smells delicious already.
