Legion of Honor. Wayne Thiebaud

Art comes from art: Modern Painter, Master Thief!

Today we visited the legion of Honor to see a Wayne Thiebaud Exposition! https://www.famsf.org/exhibitions/wayne-thiebaud
Not only that but there were lots of Rodin exhibits.  The Thinker as we went in and lots of others too!

Thiebaud sometimes sought inspiration by directly copying other artists’ work and for each exhibit his influencers are shown.  Very interesting!

1.  Wayne Thiebaud - display cakes. Similarity with the hats in Degas “The Millinery Shop!

2. Rodin (1840 - 1917). The Three Shades 1898

3. Wayne Thiebaud - Woman in tub.  References Jaques-Louis David’s Marat

4. Eating figures(Quick Snack)” (1963) compare with Degas’s “L’Absinthe”.

As we left the Legion of Honor after a delicious Hot chocolate for me, we saw a great view of the Golden Gate Bridge.  On the way back we stopped at the Palace of Fine Arts! Not sure what all the ladies looking away from the public mean but it was obviously a very popular spot as there were so many people walking round the water there.  A pond with an awful lot of wild life, including lots of turtles.
