a lifetime burning

... its the small details, pt 1

... another running-in trip in the late afternoon saw me add about 60 miles to the bike largely over as many twisty hilly roads around the Mendips as I could squeeze in.  I had a bit of a scare when the fuel warning light came on going up Burrington Combe, and the reserve miles meter then suggested there were no miles left.  I headed back down the hill to the nearest fuel station by which time I was being told that there were 4 miles left, but I think that there might actually have been 4 litres left in the tank.  It is something to take care with, and definitely worth reporting at the first service, I suspect that the fuel measurement sensor isn't placed where it should be ...

That glitch apart, the machine is a thing of beauty (probably too pretty really) and a delight to ride.  I'm limited to 5,000 revs at present, although there's definitely a power band kicking in around 4,000 so she's still loads of fun even at this stage.  In 6th gear 5,000 revs has you in serious trouble at national dual carriageway speed limits. But I'm a sensible old bloke now, and so I happily let all the youngsters go past me while I concentrate on just enjoying the whole experience.
