We passed this disused water fountain on Milbank Road in Darlington on our way to the Quakers’ Meeting House.
Records tell us that it is one of nine wall fountains installed in the 1860s by Joseph Pease (a Quaker) so that thirsty travellers could have clean refreshing water on tap rather than be forced into a pub and drink alcohol.
A nice bit of history!
After the meeting, which was very peaceful and inspiring, we walked home and had lunch on our own as Kevin was working at the show this weekend.
After lunch I wrapped up well in some old clothes of Kevin’s to protect me from the many thorns as I continued to work on pruning the garden. The pyrocantha is worse than roses - though there were some of them as well!
David cooked us a delicious dinner of Cauliflower Cheese with a layer of minced beef.
