The Moroccan Blue Room, Lullingstone Castle
Today we decided to revisit Lullingstone Castle near Eynsford as we hadn't been there for a couple of years. It is always a delight to visit and features it's stunning World Garden (which features, as you may have guessed, plants and flowers from all over the world curated into different sections for Europe, Africa, Asia, North and South America etc), a Cloud Garden, a Hot & Spiky House, a Hot & Juicy House (!) and the Moroccan Blue Room.
The Hot & Spiky House contains an amazing collection of cacti. They really are fascinating to look at, all shapes, sizes and colours. Some of them have such sharp spines on them that they've had to place corks on the end of them to prevent people from scratching themselves!
The Hot & Spiky House leads onto the Moroccan Blue Room which is where I took today's main image. It is inspired by the gardeners visits to the world famous Majorelle Gardens in Marrakesh. When they returned to Britain they decided to create their own mini version. As you can see the blue walls really make the lush planting stand out.
We also walked round the World Garden travelling around the globe as we did so. It's a fantastic place to stroll around. On the outside wall were a number of mirrors, all of which distorted reflections in a different way. We thought we'd muck about with making an image of us both and the extra image is the result! We had a great time and will go back again (it's only £9 to get in) when the weather is a bit kinder (it was a bit overcast). Of course, we had to stop off for a drink in Eynsford and chose the Castle Hotel for a cold pint. We sat out the back at at that point the sun bloody well reappeared - c'est la vie!
