It’s windy on top!
Ann, Brian and I did a walk from Dirt Pot up, up, up to Killhope Law, then back on part of Isaac’s tea trail. It is a route that may be in the 2026 Haltwhistle Walking Festival and we were checking that the route “works”.
The ascent to Killhope Law is fairly hard, but the views from the top make it all worth while. There were good views for a lot of the walk. We also crossed a number of hay meadows. These will be much easier to traverse in the Spring. Sections of the route are not regularly walked and we had to make our way through thick heather.
On our way up, we started to see cloudberry leaves, then crowberry, bilberry and lignonberry. I found one cloudberry flower, so I wish I could go in about 2 weeks time to see what else is flowering.
On our way back to Dirt Pot we walked through wild pansies, flowering prolifically. Earlier we saw loads of common spotted orchids, standing tall and beautiful.
It was a cracking day out!
