Life's Little Moments

São Paulo

The dream trip to Brazil has taken a sharp left turn into the unexpected. The ground operator that our leader contracted with appears to have absconded with the money and disappeared. So we are in limbo at the moment waiting to see if our guy can cobble together a trip for us. This is the sort of thing that you hear about sometimes but never imagine will happen to you. And yet, here we are.

The four of us went out for a short walk this morning before returning to the hotel. I decided after an hour that sitting in the room wasn’t a good plan so messaged to see if anyone wanted to go for a walk. Hilly was onboard for that so we set out to see the city. The weather was beautiful and I guess we weren’t paying much attention to things because when we decided to head back to the hotel, we were completely lost. The mapping program just got us more lost although we eventually found our way back. At that point, a glass of wine and something to nibble on seemed a good idea so we stopped at a sidewalk cafe. Almost no one here speaks English so we used a lot of hand signals and Google Translate to order with much laughter from all. Once we got back to the hotel, we met up with Mary and Shyla. Since I needed a shower and some downtime,I headed back to my room. Hilly and I will meet for dinner later. And hopefully we will hear from our guy soon with some good news.

Like so many big cities, São Paulo seems to have a significant homeless population, as seen here,
