Day of the Tours
Another great sleep . Awake and up and getting ready letting the teenager get more sleep!
Thankfully, another beautiful day. S texted me to say he got soaked walking Lucca this morning.
I had booked a tour our the Liver Building yesterday after speaking to Stephen, one of the workers at the Tate Liverpool. Sadly the main museum is getting renovated so they just have a small Pop Up near the Museum of Liverpool. Need to go back when it’s opened again.
We walked the 20 minutes to a Cafe near the Liver Building for breakfast which was good. We walked over the road for the tour at 10am. The building itself is stunning , when it was opened in 1911 (started construction in 1908) it was the tallest building in Europe and it has the largest clock faces in the U.K.. It’s been used in many films most famous as the Gotham city police department for Batman. So much more about it.
The tour guide was good and told us so much about the building . We got a lift to various spots in the building and one part was taking us to where the clocks are and there is a ten minute immersive which was excellent showing a film in surround on the walls of Liverpool history .
Next was up to the top area with fantastic views all round. It was blowy but warm. I would say it’s well worth the tour . Nowadays it’s used by lots of companies having offices in it. The bottom floor has a Cafe and areas for remote working. There is a Spa, toilets and lots of seating. It’s very bright and welcoming.
Next up was a walk to the Walker Gallery around 20 minutes which was enjoyable but so warm inside! After that we went to a Cafe nearby and had an excellent lunch. It was busy with a group of teenagers from Texas on a trip to various cities in the U.K..
We had a tour booked for the afternoon , the Magical Mystery Tour, which left at 3:30 from Albert Dock so we were back down to that area . Had a wander around the docks which has all been regenerated.
The tour was excellent! We got the front seats behind the driver and made our way round all the places mentioned in Beatles songs and where they grew up. The guide on the front of the bus was very good with stories of how they met and stuff from over the years.
The ticket included free entry to the Cavern Club so after that we went there and got a seat to listen to the performer. Ben bought Cavern Club drumsticks and I got a fridge magnet .
Under 18s had to be out by 8 so we went over the road to the cavern club restaurant for some food. Ben was ravenous so had a big bowl of tagliatelle and I had a plate of vegetables and a prawn cocktail (great mix)!
We met a couple on the street who had asked me directions and spent about half an hour chatting to them.
Walked down Mathew street and got an Uber back to hotel.
Phew
Another great day doing all the tourist stuff!
